Lady Breezy- How Far I've Come

2017's First Interview
1. How long have you been doing what you’re doing and how did you get started in the first place?
I've been rapping for as long as I can remember. I guess I would say since I was at least 9 or 10. I got started from poetry and from hearing rap. I fell in love with rap music and then I wanted to make my own and express myself.
2. Who were the first influences on your music and style?
My first memories of music would have to be No Limit and Cash Money. Also Tupac as well. My mother loved Tupac. As far as my own personal style if I had to compare it to somebody in today's game...hmmm...I don't know. I love Queen Latifah and what she did with her music.
3. In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
This will be controversial, but I would say Drake. He has inspired a lot of today's artists whether or not they would like to admit it. He is one of the biggest selling artists today and his tours are selling out worldwide. Drake is running the game right now.
4. Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
I would say both. Without a dope beat, people aren't going to listen. And I like my music to have a message so I would hope that people would listen to the words of my music.
5. Do you make your own beats and write your own lyrics? If yes what software or equipment do you prefer using? If you don’t do any of this by yourself, how do you get this done?
I search the internet for all my beats. Sometimes it’s hard to find beats that fit my style of rapping. I have dabbled in making beats using FruityLoops and I have actually made some beats but I don't think they are good enough yet. That is still a work in progress. Hopefully I can master that one day. I have my own home studio. I use Mixcraft as my DAW.
6. If you could choose to work with some of today’s established artists or producers, to move your game to the top, with whom would you like to collaborate?
I would definitely like to work with Drake. I love Kendrick Lamar and J Cole as well. I would love to work with Wale, Jay Z, Siya, Lil Kim, Monica on a hook. Chris Brown is a super dope artist as well. Nipsey Hussle and The Game too.
7. Which latest songs, videos or mixtapes releases are currently available to your fans and where can they be heard or downloaded?
I just dropped my new single called "Stay Focused, Stay Humble" and that is available now on my Soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/ladybreezy/stay-focused-stay-humble). All of my videos are available on my YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/user/ladybreezymusic) and all of my albums are available to stream for free on my Soundcloud and to stream and download free on Audiomack (http://www.audiomack.com/artist/lady-breezy).
8. Which emotion more than any other, currently dominates your music? Joy, sadness, anger or passion etc. , and why?
My music expresses my life. So you will hear every emotion in my music.
9. What aspect of the music making process excites you most, and what aspect discourages you the most?
Just writing songs and hearing your dream and your vision come to fruition with the final product is the best thing about making music. Just riding around my city bumping my own music, that is so dope to me. The thing that discourages me the most is the technical aspects such as rerecording and mixing and mastering. It is a very tedious process.
10. Do you think the advent of internet and all the new technology has helped your music and independent musicians in general, or do you think it just creates a mass of mediocre “copycats” who flood the web, making it difficult to distinguish yourself?
I think the internet is a gift and a curse. It has made making music easier for a lot of people and it has made access to music easier. With this being said, it is easier to get your music in front of people, but it also easy for a million other artists to do the same.
11. In your experience thus far, what is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed? And one you didn’t follow, but now know for sure that you should have?
Work hard and follow your heart. Don't trust anyone in the music business.
12. Being an independent artist, which is the one factor, above all else, that you currently desire most (increased music distribution, better quality production, more media exposure, more club and live performances etc…)?
More media coverage of course. If I get the media on my side, everything else will fall into place.
13. Is going Platinum or winning a Grammy important to you, and If you were forced to make only one choice, which of the two would you choose and why?
I would say going Platinum. Don't get me wrong, I would love to win a Grammy but there are plenty of artists who should have won a Grammy that didn't or haven't yet. Going platinum could set me and my family up for life if I invest the money right. I love music. Making money off music is a plus. But for a a million people to purchase or stream my music...that would be so awesome.
14. In closing, tell us something about any projects and ideas you have in store or are already working on?
I have just finished up my new album that will be coming out this summer. It is called " How Far I've Come" and I'm really excited about that. I am working on an EP called R&Breezy that will be dropping this February. I can't wait for the people to hear that. I am going to be doing some R&B songs and even singing a little so I'm excited for that as well. Something new from me, something different. Once the weather warms up, I'll be shooting some videos as well. So stay tuned and thanks for all of the support!
